Caustics in the sine-Gordon model from quenches in coupled one-dimensional Bose gases

چکیده

Caustics are singularities that occur naturally in optical, hydrodynamic and quantum waves, giving rise to high amplitude patterns can be described using catastrophe theory. In this paper we study caustics a statistical field theory setting the form of sine-Gordon model describes variety physical systems including coupled 1D superfluids. Specifically, use classical simulations dynamics two ultracold Bose gases (quasi-condensates) suddenly each other find resulting non-equilibrium dominated by caustics. Thermal noise is included sampling initial states from Boltzmann distribution for phononic excitations. We pile up over time both number phase difference observables leading characteristic non-thermal `circus tent' shaped probability at long times.

Apparent phase transitions in finite one-dimensional sine-Gordon lattices.

We study the one-dimensional sine-Gordon model as a prototype of roughening phenomena. In spite of the fact that it has been recently proven that this model cannot have any phase transition [J. A. Cuesta and A. Sánchez, J. Phys. A 35, 2373 (2002)], Langevin as well as Monte Carlo simulations strongly suggest the existence of a finite temperature separating a flat from a rough phase. We explain ...

Dipolar gases in coupled one-dimensional lattices.

We consider dipolar bosons in two tubes of one-dimensional lattices, where the dipoles are aligned to be maximally repulsive and the particle filling fraction is the same in each tube. In the classical limit of zero intersite hopping, the particles arrange themselves into an ordered crystal for any rational filling fraction, forming a complete devil's staircase like in the single tube case. Tur...

Fermi-Bose mapping for one-dimensional Bose gases

One-dimensional Bose gases are considered, interacting either through the hardcore potentials or through the contact delta potentials. Interest in these gases gained momentum because of the recent experimental realization of quasi-one-dimensional Bose gases in traps with tightly confined radial motion, achieving the Tonks-Girardeau (TG) regime of strongly interacting atoms. For such gases the F...
